Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is based off a light novel written by Fujino Omori. Set in Orario, adventurers enter the Dungeon to seek fame and find treasures by fighting together. But to be able to enter the Dungeon, adventurers must join a Familia run by a God or Goddess. The story focuses on Bell Cranel and his goal to pick up girls in the Dungeon. But all is not as it seems as he becomes the one who needs to be saved instead.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? has a different take on things by making something you'd only see in RPGs into something you'd see in reality - think SAO but set in the real world rather than a game.

Death Note (Live Action Series)

If you haven't seen the anime or read the manga before you watch this, you should go for them first, simply because the Live-Action series starts off much differently. Light's character has also changed, with him working in a restaurant and wanting to live a steady life. His encounter with the Shinigami (Death God) Ryuk and the Death Note are also different, as Ryuk sees Light and drops the Death Note behind him. These differences you see at the start may not be to the liking of fans of the anime/manga, as they show Light as a student who prefers to keep himself to himself and meets Ryuk after getting a hold of the Death Note.

The story does progress quite quickly once Light meets Ryuk, bringing other moments into play when he becomes used to using the Death Note and sticks to main parts of the plot , such as the frequent deaths of criminals by heart attack with Light's father being the one leading the investigation into the mysterious killings, Misa becoming a supporter of Kira, and L's initial stand-off with Kira.

Akame ga Kill!

Akame ga Kill! (or Akame ga Kiru!) follows Tatsumi, a young swordsman who left his poverty
stricken village to find work in the Imperial Capital, in the hope of saving his home. Arriving at the Capital, Tatsumi meets Akame, an assassin and a member of the rebel group Night Raid, which uses special weapons known as Teigu. Together, Tatsumi and Night Raid work to overthrow the corrupt empire.

The anime starts off with action and continues to progress with a well balanced story so you won't feel bored while watching it. It also has its moments of humour, seriousness, sadness and action, which are all perfectly balanced. Action scenes don't drag out, giving time for other things to happen in following episodes.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Madoka Magica follows the story of Madoka Kaname and her friend Sayaka Miki, two middle school students who have a magical encounter with a creature. It offers to make a contract with them, in which a girl is granted any wish they desire in exchange for magical powers used to fight against witches.

The anime starts off with one of the main characters (Madoka) running through a strange hallway and leaving through the exit only to see a battle wage out in a dream-like city. Apparently she is being shown this as a way of setting the scene for the anime, with a creature telling her to become a Magical Girl.

Set in a futuristic Japan, the anime continues on to be a lighthearted one with a mysterious element to it and some action. It has a slow start but you eventually come to grips with what is happening, as it takes 3 episodes to explain before the story really progresses after a shocking event occurs.

====
Summary:

Two friends encounter a creature that wishes to form contracts with them to become magical girls
Anything else?: Kyubey is cute

Lucky Star

Lucky Star: an anime of pure weirdness and randomness. This follows the story of four second-year high school friends, Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki and their daily lives both in and out of school. That about sums it up for the main plot of this one, but there are other things to look forward to as well. As I said, it's an anime of pure weirdness and randomness, meaning anything could happen (only possible in reality of course, but then again this is a show).

It's not your regular anime either as it has no core story line, apart from following the lives of the main characters through high school.

Boku no Hero Academia

Boku no Hero Academia (or My Hero Academy) is a manga which follows the story of Midoriya, a 14 year old boy who dreams of becoming a hero, which drives him to apply to Yuuei High, a popular high school where those who wish to become heroes go in order to gain the necessary qualifications to become pros. However, although he has been studying for the entrance exams, Midoriya has no 'individuality', something which others seem to have, enabling them to become a hero or villain. But with the help of All Might, a popular hero, Midoriya strives to fulfill his dream and become a hero to save people through training and All Might's quirk - one which allows him to transfer his powers to another person.

This is the first time that I have read this type of manga, and I must say that it is quite a steady paced story, but is interesting nonetheless.

Log Horizon

Log Horizon is based on the story of Shiroe, a veteran gamer, who is one of the 30,000 players trapped in another world which looks just like the world in the online game Elder Tale. The players are still alive, but must continue to fight the monsters.

The anime gets right into the story as you watch a party fight off monsters, with the leader (Shiroe) directing each member during the fight before being attacked. He becomes unconscious and when he comes to, he finds himself somewhere else which we learn is Akihabara (or Akiba) in the world of Elder Tale. Other players find themselves there too, not knowing why they are there. Their status screens appear, but Shiroe learns that they cannot log out.

Attack on Titan (Live Action Movie Trailer) First Impressions

Having seen the Attack on Titan (Japanese: Shingeki no Kyojin) anime, I can say that it is a good one to watch (and recommend the manga too), and I know what I should expect from the movie.

For those of you unfamiliar with Attack on Titan, the story is as follows:
The last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind towering city walls many years ago to escape massive, man-eating Titans that roamed outside the walls. Those who ventured beyond the walls, the Scouting Legion, seldom returned alive. Those who remained within the safety of the walls however, clung to the illusion that they were safe from the Titans until the day this dream was shattered, further reducing their chances of survival to one choice - to kill, or be devoured.

Black Bullet

Black Bullet follows the story of Satomi Rentaro, a Civil Officer fighting against Gastrea. In the year 2021, Gastrea, a parasitical virus, defeated mankind, who is now forced to live within the safety of a wall made of Varanium, the only metal which affects Gastrea. Soon, the "Cursed Children" are born with the same virus, but are able to control it. This gives them superhuman abilities, which means they are used as weapons to fight against the Gastrea.

The anime starts off strong by showing the destruction caused by the Gastrea in 2021 and the ongoing battle. This is being seen by a young Rentaro (as well as other people), and withing a minute of the anime starting, you see a Gastrea form being shot down by a warplane. It then moves on 10 years, and you see an older Rentaro who is now a Civil Officer.

Btooom!

Sakamoto Ryouta is 22 years old and unemployed, but is the highest ranking Japanese player in a game called Btooom! But things change when Ryouta suddenly finds himself on an island, not knowing how or why he is there. It turns out that he and other people are in a real life version of Btoom! and the objective is simple: kill other players to gain their crystals, which you must collect 5 of in order to get off the island.

The anime has a strong start, showing you some Btoom! gameplay and just how good a player Ryouta is. He then goes on to explain how the game works, so you won't be left confused as the game is played on the island. After this intro, it goes straight to Ryouta finding himself on the island and tries to recall how he got there.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma

The first cooking anime I have seen, and it sure is entertaining. Food Wars follows the story of Yukihira Soma, a middle school student who is determined to surpass his father's culinary skills. After saving the family restaurant from being knocked down and turned into a block of flats, Yukihira's father informs him of his decision to close the restaurant while he travels to Europe to hone his culinary skills. Not only that, he enrolls Yukihira into an elite culinary school, which only has a graduation rate of 10% (talk about no pressure).

As the anime progresses, you'll meet different characters, both friend and foe, with interesting backstories about how they came to the school and what they're ultimately striving for, which means not everything is focused on Yukihira which is a good thing as it brings something different to the episodes.

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

A highly recommended anime, Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (or Anohana) follows the story of six childhood friends, who have now grown distant from one another after a tragic accident leads to the death of one of the friends. During one particular summer however, one friend, Jintan, "hallucinates" and sees this friend, Menma, who seems to have appeared so that Jintan can fulfill her wish, but can only do so by reuniting their old friends.

The story focuses on Jintan's view of the events that take place during that summer as everyone tries to figure out what Menma's wish is, with some focus on the other characters as well and their recollections of what happened on the day Menma died.

Fruits Basket

One of my all-time favourites, Fruits Basket is based on the life of high school student Tohru Honda who lives alone in a tent after her mother died in a car accident, and her encounter with members of the Sohma family both in and out of high school. After meeting three members of the family (Yuki Sohma, Shigure Sohma and Kyo Sohma), Tohru accepts an invitation to stay in their house (in return she helps in keeping the place clean) and discovers a dark secret – the family is cursed. The curse is no ordinary one either, because if a member of the Sohma family touches a person of the opposite sex (outside of the family), he/she transforms into an animal, an animal of the Chinese Zodiac to be exact.
