Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is based off a light novel written by Fujino Omori. Set in Orario, adventurers enter the Dungeon to seek fame and find treasures by fighting together. But to be able to enter the Dungeon, adventurers must join a Familia run by a God or Goddess. The story focuses on Bell Cranel and his goal to pick up girls in the Dungeon. But all is not as it seems as he becomes the one who needs to be saved instead.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? has a different take on things by making something you'd only see in RPGs into something you'd see in reality - think SAO but set in the real world rather than a game.
The RPG aspect does remain as monsters respawn a while after being defeated, adventurers gain drops from defeating monsters and must be in a party to bring down harder bosses. What's more, stats are also used to show how good an adventurer is and can be levelled up by the head of the Familia at the end of the day. Adventurers can also gain an ability and can take on different roles, such as a Supporter. Fans of RPGs would enjoy this as they'd be able to relate the difficulties Bell has to go through in order to become stronger and gain respect from others. Also, the focus on the RPG elements makes it similar to Log Horizon in the sense that parties become a necessity if adventurers wish to progress further in the Dungeon.

The virtual-turned-reality element does make for an interesting story too, with plenty of backstory to get you to grips with Bell's goal to pick up girls, and how he came to meet his Goddess Hestia. There is also some focus on Hestia and other characters you meet throughout the anime, which makes things more interesting. This results in a much more balanced story in terms of progression, humour, action and character development.
