Final Fantasy XV - Brotherhood: Bittersweet Memories (Episode 4)

And for the final episode: Iggy the Baker!

Ignis will probably hate me for that, but who knew he was such a good baker? Apart from Noctis, Prompto and Gladiolus. And the chef. Moving on.

It's Ignis' turn this time, as the Sakamoto version of himself (to me he looks like Sakamoto from Sakamoto desu ga?) rather than the version we all know and love (you know the cool looking one) takes to the screen to look after our beloved Noctis, who is now in high school along with now slim Prompto. Time flies when you wait for an episode to air that doesn't have a notified release date, with the game being delayed by two months. Square Enix why?

So Ignis is busy baking desserts for and taking care of Noctis who's in the middle of his exams and is quite a messy guy for a Prince. Not that I'm judging. I still like you Noctis. Anyway, we also get a glimpse of what's happening back in Lucis as Ignis travels back and forth from the Kingdom to Noctis. Trouble is brewing, what with attacks happening on the Wall. Turns out we also get new info as we learn that the King must sacrifice his strength in order to keep the Wall up, and with all these attacks happening *spoiler alert* Noctis' father King Regis has lost quite a bit as a result, to the point where he must now walk with a cane.

The drama extends to poor Noctis who isn't aware of any of this as he's far away from the Kingdom, until he sees his father on the news. Clearly he's shocked to see him like that and can't focus on anything else, but Ignis, being the mother-like character to Noctis (now that I think about it, we never see Noctis' mother), tells him off after Noctis doesn't do as he's told regarding some report reading. You're not spoilt Noctis, you're just well-looked after, and you care for your father.

And not just that, but we get to see Noctis as a normal teenager as he's in the Arcade trying to control his emotions. Even when Gladiolus shows up and tries to get him to spar since he's been absent from that too. Gotta feel for him when he's away from all the chaos in Lucis and unable to help his father, and having to face reality that, if his father should die keeping the Wall up to defend the city, Noctis must take his place as King and fight in the war. Too much responsibility for such a young person.

I'm guessing this was the final episode, what with the credits rolling at the end and FFXV's original release date of 30th September, otherwise I have to change my subtitle for this. But, that aside, this and the earlier episodes were a good build up to the game, now that we were able to see how the gang met and have the strong bond we've seen in all those trailers and gameplay, not to mention the start of the war and how Noctis will be thrown in the deep end as a result. Short and sweet, with a good balance of drama and conflict, and plenty of character development. Okay I'll forgive you for the delay Square Enix since I enjoyed Brotherhood.
