When you don't attend a mixed school...
...or ever interact with the opposite sex. Add some Manga drama into the mix and you have Haji-Otsu.
This was the first time I ever knew about a Manga with this idea, and it got my attention. Like, yes you have separate sex schools in Manga, but how many (that I know of) base it around someone whose perception of guys is totally off the radar?
Our MC is Ashihira Himari, a high school who, yup you've guessed it, has never interacted with guys. Blame it on her attending an all-girls school, and/or that she doesn't have any male family members around the house, from what I remember that is. Anyway, because of her lack of socialising, Himari is unable to speak to guys, walk close to guys, or think about them. The final one seems to freak her out, because she assumes that every guy on the planet eats messily, has never heard of hygiene, is super strong and highly aggressive. Until, that is, she "confesses" to a guy who walks the same route to an all-boys school that's just opposite the all-girls school, and showed her an act of kindness that one time.

What do you mean by "confess" I hear you ask. Well, what I mean is (without trying to spoil the story too much) she confesses to the guy known as Satoru Kai, who accepts it since he likes her too. But, this "confession" is more of an experiment of sorts; to get Himari interacting with guys without freaking out about EVERYTHING. She's not the one who thought of this idea, her friends did because Himari is absolutely hopeless, so why not try it with a guy who was nice to you right?
So it turns out that, Kai likes her too. That is all I will say about the plot, because most of it from there is how Himari gets on, with the addition of friends joining them for social events or if Himari asks them to join them because she'll feel better when she's not alone with Kai. Her encounters are cute at first because poor Himari has to learn to be with the guy she likes (or "likes), but then as the story progresses, there is some development on her part don't get me wrong about that, she is still freaking out about things. After all the interaction through dates, speaking and what have you, girl, man up for goodness sake!
But it's not all negative as there are some good comedy moments based on Kai and Himari's lack of interaction with the opposite sex, and some characters who seem more normal since they have no issues interacting with others. Yes, Kai is also inexperienced, but is slightly better at interacting that Himari. He's the more calmer one and actually wants to try to progress their relationship.
Overall, Haji-Otsu is a good Manga featuring a concept I've never seen before, but it could have been better. I guess just to let the story last longer Himari is unable to develop as fast as Kai, but I would rather have that than the Himari we get now. Oh and don't forget that it wasn't an actual confession; this adds to the story later on too.
Given that I have left it for a month or so before getting back into at times from my (lack of) Tweets, you can see that I'm not thoroughly enjoyed by it, but it does have its moments. I won't be rushing back to read this anytime soon though.
