Digimon Adventure Tri: Kokuhaku

Them feels though

A belated happy 2017 to all my beloved readers! Here's to another good year! ^o^/

It has been so long since I last watched Adventure Tri. I knew the third part (Kokuhaku) had aired, but totally forgot about it until I had a sudden realisation one day that it had (sorry guys ^^"). So I made the time to finally get round to watching it, and it definitely did not disappoint.

For those of you new to the blog, I was part of the generation that grew up with the likes of Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade and Yu-Gi-Oh! So I'm one of those who like their nostalgia, but in doses as that makes it more appealing and enjoyable. After my long break from the series, it was nice to see Tai and the gang once again in Kokuhaku which follows on from the events of Ketsui. To refresh our minds on the latter, Ketsui ended with everyone (except Joe) taking part in the school festival. The Digimon were there too, but Meicoomon becomes infected after a certain someone who we thought was good but turns out they're not (who I will reveal shortly to save those who haven't yet seen any of Adventure Tri from spoilers) made it happen. Sad times. Also, Joe was more of a bench warmer in Ketsui what with him needing to focus on exams, and poor Gomamon couldn't hang around with him. Mimi had more show time and definitely used the opportunity well, bringing in some energy into the episodes.

And now for Kokuhaku. It continues on from Ketsui as I said, so now the gang have to try and work out how to get Meicoomon back to normal and stop their Digimon from becoming infected as well. Because of this, things get so much deeper and emotional that you can't help control the feels. Like literally, as the bonds between gang and their Digimon are shown more, less so between Izzy and Tentomon because Izzy is busy binge researching a way to stop the infection from spreading and sleeping. But with everyone else, the feels happen around the third episode (keep on reading to know why), so you have been warned. And because of that, unlike Saikai and Ketsui, Kokuhaku has five episodes. We've sure been spoiled this time, and I'm not complaining because they're so good.

Anyway, Joe appears a lot more in this part, and it's a nice welcome back from him and Gomamon. TK also has more screen time with Patamon which I liked because you don't really see them much (well more Patamon than TK), so the balance in showing everyone is getting there. Tai and Matt aren't around much this time until the last two episodes, but that's when all the action begins.

Continuing on with the story, and after what *spoiler alert* Himekawa did to Meicoomon, there is an element of mistrust we feel with her because of how she tries to act like she's on Tai and co's side, but there's some other hidden agenda we don't know about. Until the final episode that is, when we see the guy who's appeared a few times in both Saikai and Ketsui if I remember correctly, turning into another guy right in front of our eyes. No idea what went on, but if you guys do, let me know in the comments!

And that's not all with the story, for the feels I mentioned are because there's the possibility that our beloved Digimon may also become infected, and, if they do and/or Meicoomon makes a reappearance in the real world after returning to the DigiWorld, the entire Digimon Universe will be rebooted; they'll forget all about Tai and co. ToT

I won't tell you if that happens though.

I loved Kokuhaku, mainly because of the feels aspect you don't get in Saikai and Ketsui. It's not something you'd think about happening, especially with a series you've grown up with; to take a possible turn for the worse with characters you've come to know and love, and to see their reactions towards it is so touching and sad, that you have to have a heart made from stone to get through those moments without feeling something. And for me that's what made Kokuhaku a strong addition to Adventure Tri. I recommend watching Saikai and Ketsui again before watching Kokuhaku if you're someone like me who forgets about the next part and so has a long gap between watching each one. Sadly no sign of a new part to Tri yet, but in the comments section on gogoanime someone said the next part will be airing in February.....so not long then.
