Attack on Titan (Season 2)

Just when you thought you knew what was going on in Season 1

My did Season 1 end with a cliffhanger, which I am gonna spoil because it's been what, 3 or 4 years(?) since it aired: Titans in the walls! Talk about a bombshell.

Attack on Titan comes back after a long wait with a very intense plot as we delve deeper into the AoT universe. So much is going that I have no idea where to start. Well, I can say that Season 2 carries on from where Season 1 ended with everyone who was fighting the Titans looking at the part of the wall which crumbled after Annie had grabbed it in her attempt to escape from Eren in his Titan form.

From there, the AoT universe opens up so much more, dropping unexpected plot bombs here and there with new characters and developments that, if you're like me and haven't read the manga, would never have imagined would happen. I mean, we just about understood Season 1 and were shocked with Eren and Annie turning into Titans. Now we get loose ends being tied up as we learn more about the Titans, including the Colossal and Armoured Titans, with the action and gore turned up a notch for humans and Titans. I mean, a Titan does some random flip while running! Sadly though, we're nowhere closer to seeing Eren reach the basement of his house to find out what his dad was hiding all this time. That's probably being saved for Season 3 (out in 2019! \^o^/). It better be in Season 3.

Anyway, I really enjoyed Season 2 because of the new events, but also because characters who appeared in Season 1 and didn't do much other than survive I guess have so much development that the roster now becomes well-balanced in terms of fleshing out characters. Like in Season 1 we of course had Eren, Mikasa and Armin, not to mention Jean later on. Here we have the likes of Reiner and Ymir being fleshed out for example, and I won't mention anyone else and why they're having character development, because spoilers. Not only that, the likes of Levi take a step back from all the action, because of his injury he suffered near the end of Season 1, and Erwin being much more formidable because of the turns the story is taking.

Also, Eren gets his first kill! As a human of course. Bless him. I was wondering when he'd get it.

Season 1 paved the way by introducing us to all the (relevant) characters and plot points, with Season 2 then throwing us into the deep end with some of the twists in the AoT universe. I tried to get a better understanding by looking things up on the AoT wiki, but I'm still confused. But still, it's definitely one of the strong Season 2s out there, with the story taking new and unexpected turns from episode 1, characters who took a backseat in Season 1 coming back strong, much more action and emotion, and another cliffhanger at the end that says we have to wait another year to find out what in the world is happening. Unless you decide you can't wait and start reading the manga.

My expectations are high for Season 3 after seeing how well and fleshed out Season 2 was. I would have liked a few more episodes, but then again it's all about quality not quantity. What did you guys think of Season 2 after the long wait?

Oh, and the end song is creepy as hell.
